Chippewa Falls Sesquicentennial Celebration Kickoff at The Heyde Center for the Arts

Can you say sesquicentennial (sĕsˌkwĭ-sĕn-tĕnˈē-əl)? You don’t have to be able to pronounce it, much less spell it, but you sure can celebrate it as we mark the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Chippewa Falls. Take a step back in time as the Wayward Players, dressed in period costume, sing songs from CHIPPEWA FALLS 1869--THE MUSICAL on the same date that the proclamation that founded the city was signed – March 25. Browse through historic photographs, enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages, and talk with city officials and historians about the past, present and future of Chippewa Falls. The Chippewa County Historical Society will have books about Chippewa Falls on sale, a table and display of artifacts from the early 1800s, fur trade re-enactors, and more. The sesquicentennial celebration will continue throughout the year, with each month given a specific theme. No cost for admission.

Chippewa Falls 1869: The Musical at The Heyde Center for the Arts

Chippewa Falls was incorporated as a city in 1869, just four years after the Civil War ended. There were daunting challenges to be met: a major flood, a massive log jam, a devastating downtown fire, and a logging war with a rival lumber company. The city founders were resourceful, brave and hard-working, but who knew they sang so well!?! The Wayward Players celebrate the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Chippewa Falls by portraying the community’s colorful founders and their true-to-life struggles and adventures. Treasured traditional American melodies of the Civil War era are sung with new lyrics as a special Sesquicentennial feature. Karl’s BBQ Express will prepare a wonderful meal including: Smoked Beef Brisket, Flaky Baked Cod, Cowboy Beans, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, and Cornbread with honey butter. Coffee/Tea, Milk and Water are included with the meal. CHIPPEWA FALLS 1869: The Musical is directed by Jerry & Carol Way.
