Snapshot Day 2018 - Search for Invasive Species in Wisconsin at Beaver Creek Reserve

This is a one-day search for aquatic Invasive species across Wisconsin. You can help protect your local lakes and streams by showing up at a site near you.
This event will get you out on Wisconsin’s rivers and lakes at monitoring sites selected by a local coordinator–sites vary from public parks to small trout streams; bridges to your local boat launch. At some sites, friendly waters will beg you to wade in to get a better look, while at others, you will monitor and gather specimens from the shore using binoculars and rakes. Whether you want to wade in or stay dry, there is a site for you.
No previous experience required–you will be given the training and tools you need that day. Free event. Family friendly.
8:30 am – 9:00 am: Arrive and check in
9:00 am – 9:45 am: Get your materials and brief training
9:45 am – 12:00 pm: Search for invasive species at nearby sites
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Return to rendezvous site and share your findings
Hosted in partnership between River Alliance of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin DNR, and UW Extension’s Citizen Lake Monitoring Network.

Watercolor artist Jeff Nelson is offering beginning and advanced level watercolor classes at the Heyde Center for the Arts, August 22-23-24.
Beginner Class - August 22 will be a one-day class from 9-3pm. This class is for the beginning painter (see Winter Birch image for intended subject). This class will be limited to 12 people.
Advanced Class - August 23 - 24 are for the experienced painter. The intended image for the class is Meadow Lark. These classes will cover techniques including washes, gradient wash, splash bleed, masking, dry brush, spattering. By the end of class each person will be able to leave with a completed painting. The advanced class is limited to 10.
The cost of the beginning class is $50 without materials, $60 with materials (14" x 16" size). For the advanced class, the cost is $75 for two days without supplies, $85 with supplies (18" x 20" size).

Chippewa Valley Wavemaker Rally

Who should attend? Any “wavemakers” interested to learn how to help our community make the healthy choice the easy choice. Whether you are working in business, healthcare, community development, government, education , food service, non-profits, or a community member, this event is the place for you!
(“Wavemaker” meaning one who desires change in the world and, by gathering knowledge and resources, makes that change happen!)
• Discover how food systems can improve community health in the Chippewa Valley (Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire counties).
• Hear from a keynote speaker about building relationships in a community to improve food environment and learn how small changes can have big impacts • Connect and collaborate with others throughout the Chippewa Valley who care about a healthy food environment.
• Listen to a panel discussion with representatives from active communities, foodservice, healthy food retail, and food security.
• Enjoy snacks and a lunch provided by local food vendors.
